How to choose

FAQ

Is Vaultwarden the same as Bitwarden?

No. Vaultwarden is an unofficial, community server that works with the official Bitwarden clients. Its README says it is not associated with Bitwarden, Inc.

Is self-hosting a password manager safe?

It can be, but security becomes your job: keep the server patched, use HTTPS, restrict access and back up the vault regularly.

Can I import from 1Password?

Check each project's import docs. Test with an export first, and delete export files once you are done.
